Introduction
The Lahore Science Mela (LSM) is an annual citizen science festival organized by the Khwarizmi Science Society. To date, KSS has organized five Lahore Science Melas (2017, 2018, 2019, 2022, 2023) in which more than 200,000 students, volunteers, exhibitors, performers, scientists, and laypersons have participated. The CERN’s LHC Interactive Tunnel, LIT Disco and exhibitions by the BioRobotics Institute of Italy are emblematic of the international projects that the Mela hosts.The festivals are open-to-all and utterly free of cost and have become the most prominent citizen science festival of Pakistan.
Lahore Science Mela 2023, the fifth instalment of this grand event held on 28th and 29th October 2023 at Crescent Model Higher Secondary School, Shadman, Lahore (Boys Campus). Lahore Science Mela 2023 featured over 140 performers, 15 enlightening auditorium sessions, and eight indoor workshops presenting more than 3000 unique experiments, demonstrations, and performances from various fields, and attracted over 100,000 visitors over both days. Featuring a large Surpriseum and a public planetarium with live experiments, indigenous inventions, puzzles, and demonstrations, the event was well-received, attracting people from all walks of life . KSS’s Thematic Science Melas
While LSM showcases a diverse range of science and technological artefacts and experiments across various disciplines, we’re taking the next step by introducing Thematic Science Melas (TSM), an evolution of KSS’s annual citizen science festivals Lahore Science Melas (LSM), to explore specific scientific realms in a deeper way.
